On This Day
British synth-pop conquered the United States in 1983 as Eurythmics secured the number-one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 with Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This). Built around Dave Stewart’s hypnotic synthesizer sequence and propelled by Annie Lennox’s commanding, soulful vocal performance and striking video imagery, the track marked a breakthrough for the UK new wave movement in America.
